HLS 14RS-6040 ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 215 BY REPRESENTATIVE CARMODY HISTORIC PRESERVATION: Commemorates the listing by the United States Department of the Interior of the Caddo Parish Confederate Monument on the National Register of Historic Places on January 29, 2014 A RESOLUTION1 To commemorate the official listing by the United States Department of the Interior of the2 Caddo Parish Confederate Monument on the National Register of Historic Places.3 WHEREAS, the National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation's4 historic places worthy of preservation, and, as authorized by the National Historic5 Preservation Act of 1966, the National Park Service's National Register of Historic Places6 is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify,7 evaluate, and protect America's historic and archeological resources; and8 WHEREAS, the commitment of the parish of Caddo to the preservation of its history9 and obtaining the listing of the Caddo Parish Confederate Monument on the National10 Register on January 29, 2014, reflects the community's desire to build and grow from a base11 of understanding its own past; and12 WHEREAS, the Caddo Parish Confederate Monument is of statewide significance13 as one of four major Louisiana monuments representing what is known by historians as "the14 Cult of the Lost Cause," representing the Memorial Period of the Civil War Commemorative15 Sculpture Movement, and reflecting the introduction and presence of Civil War monument16 construction in Louisiana and the role women played in the memorial period; and17 WHEREAS, all those who played a role in creating and preserving this monument18 exemplifying art as history deserve recognition for their contribution to the community and19 to history.20 HLS 14RS-6040 ENROLLED HR NO. 215 Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the1 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commemorate the official listing on January 29, 2014,2 by the United States Department of the Interior of the Caddo Parish Confederate Monument3 on the National Register of Historic Places.4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Mr.5 Woodrow Wilson, Jr., Caddo Parish Commission Administrator.6 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
