HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 221

A RESOLUTION
To commend Robert Powell III on all of his hard work and his many accomplishments.
WHEREAS, Robert Powell III was born with a natural ability to make people laugh;
a graduate of Wossman High School in Monroe, Louisiana, Powell got his start in comedy
at the Funny Bone in Shreveport, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Robert Powell III, aka "RP3" started doing comedy in college as a dare
and has been doing it ever since; and
WHEREAS, Powell is a member of the Association for the Promotion of Campus
Activities (APCA) and has served as host of the APCA conference in Houston, Texas; and
WHEREAS, Robert Powell III became the official opening act for the "Rickey
Smiley and Friends Tour" in 2005 and in just a few short years has already performed
alongside well-known comedians such as Kevin Hart, Lil' Duval, Rickey Smiley, Mike Epps,
DL Hughley, Rodney Perry, Cedric the Entertainer, Ron White, and many more; and
WHEREAS, Robert was blessed to be named Louisiana's Comedian of the Year three
years in a row and was discovered by "Shaq's All-Star Comedy Jam" in February 2012 at the
first "Shaq's Next All Star Competition"; he toured with the "Shaq All-Star Comedy Jam
Tour" in 2012 and 2013; and
WHEREAS, Powell is the first comic in the history of the tour's franchise to make
his television debut as a Shaq All-Star, the youngest to tape an All-Star special, as well as
the first urban comic to make a broadcast debut on the Showtime Network.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Robert S. Powell III for all of his hard work
and many accomplishments. ENROLLEDHR NO. 221
