HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 60
BY REPRESENTATIVE LEGER
A RESOLUTION
To commend the Comprehensive Alcohol Research Center at the Louisiana State University (LSU)
Health Sciences Center in New Orleans.
WHEREAS, the Comprehensive Alcohol Research Center at the LSU Health Sciences Center
in New Orleans is one of eight such centers in the United States and the only comprehensive research
center in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, the Comprehensive Alcohol Research Center, led by Dr. Steve Nelson, dean
of the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, has been continuously funded by the National
Institutes of Health since 1993, receiving more than $35 million in federal funding over that twenty-
one year period; and
WHEREAS, the focus of the Comprehensive Alcohol Research Center is to provide
leadership in conducting and fostering interdisciplinary, collaborative research on the nature,
etiology, genetics, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of alcohol use disorders and their biomedical
consequences across life spans; and
WHEREAS, the center is a regional and national resource that contributes to the
development of innovative research technologies and approaches to the care of patients with alcohol
and substance abuse disorders.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of
Louisiana hereby commends the Comprehensive Alcohol Research Center, Dean Steve Nelson, and
the faculty of the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans for their significant contributions in
the field of alcohol and substance abuse research at the local, state, and national levels.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Dean Steve Nelson and the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans.
