HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 90
BY REPRESENTATIVE THOMPSON
A RESOLUTION
To commend the Bossier Parish Community College debate team for its completion of an
award-winning 2013-2014 season.
WHEREAS, the Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) debate team recently
completed its 2013-2014 season by competing at the 2014 International Public Debate
Association (IPDA) national championship tournament; and
WHEREAS, the 2013-2014 BPCC debate team was comprised of Natalie Banks,
Erika Hill, Prince Lofton, and David Tillmon; and
WHEREAS, the team returned from the IPDA tournament with impressive honors
in tow; and
WHEREAS, Team Captain Erika Hill finished her 2013-2014 season in the varsity
division of debate ranked as the number one community college student in the nation; and
WHEREAS, novice division debater Prince Lofton finished the year ranked as the
number three ranked community college student; and
WHEREAS, beginning in 2006, the IPDA began honoring a "Coach of the Year"
each year, and three years later the organization renamed the award the Bennett Strange
Coach of the Year, in honor of the late Bennett Strange, who coached the Louisiana College
debate team from 1988 to 2006 and taught for a semester at BPCC in 2006; and
WHEREAS, BPCC debate coach Bob Alexander was named the Bennett Strange
Coach of the Year at the IPDA's annual awards banquet held on Sunday, April 13, 2014, at
Middle Tennessee State University, becoming the first coach from a community college to
earn this award; and
WHEREAS, in addition to the individual awards, the BPCC debate team wrapped
up the 2013-2014 season with its most successful year to date, earning thirty-one awards and
four championships competing against programs from such well-known schools as Texas ENROLLEDHR NO. 90

A&M International University, the United States Military Academy at West Point, and
Whitworth University; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting for the Louisiana House of Representatives to commend the
BPCC debate team for its outstanding accomplishments over the course of the 2013-2014
season.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Bossier Parish Community College
debate team for its completion of an award-winning 2013-2014 season and extends
congratulations to the coaches and students for their many successes.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the Bossier Parish Community College debate coach, Bob Alexander.
