DIGEST Thompson (SB 112) Present law in the Public Bid Law provides for procurement by state and local public entities for the purchase of materials and supplies and provisions. The law also provides a preference for certain products produced or manufactured in Louisiana, including meat and meat products processed in Louisiana from animals that are alive at the time they enter the processing plant. Proposed law provides instead that the meat be processed in Louisiana from animals that originated in Louisiana with traceability documentation supplied by the manufacturer. Present law provides a similar preference relative to meat and meat products processed in Louisiana in the State Procurement Code for supplies purchased by state agencies. Present law also provides that meat and meat products shall be processed in Louisiana from animals that are alive at the time they enter the processing plant. Proposed law to the State Procurement Code proposes a revision that meat be processed in Louisiana from animals that originated in Louisiana with traceability documentation supplied by the manufacturer.
