(8/1/14) AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 17:436.1(L), relative to administration of medication by a school nurse; to2 provide for a policy authorizing a school nurse to carry and administer inhalers under3 certain circumstances; and to provide for related matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. R.S. 17:436.1(L) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6 ยง436.1. Administration of medication; definition; conditions; restrictions7 * * *8 L. Notwithstanding any provision of law or any rule, regulation, or9 policy to the contrary, the governing authority of each public elementary and10 secondary school shall adopt a policy authorizing a school nurse to carry and11 administer inhalers, as defined in Subparagraph (J)(4)(b) of this Section, to a12 student who the school nurse, in good faith, professionally believes is having a13 symptom of wheezing, whether or not such student has a prescription for an14 inhaler.
