Ward (SB 212) Act No. 378 Prior law authorized the use of a firearm fitted with a sound suppressor in hunting outlaw quadrupeds, nutria, or beaver. New law retains prior law and expands the authorization to hunt with a firearm fitted with a sound suppressor to game birds and all wild quadrupeds, which includes outlaw quadrupeds, nutria, and beaver. Prior law limited hunting with a sound suppressor to a person authorized to possess such firearm fitted with a sound suppressor, as evidenced by possession of the federal tax stamp required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Prohibited use of a sound suppressor by any person convicted of a hunting violation class four or greater for five years after the date of conviction. New law retains prior law. Effective August 1, 2014. (Amends R.S. 56:116.1(B)(3); adds R.S. 56:116.6; repeals R.S. 56:116.1(D)(3))
