AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 56:116.1(B)(3), to enact R.S. 56:116.6, and to repeal R.S.2
56:116.1(D)(3), relative to hunting; to provide for the use of firearm sound3
suppressors when taking game birds and wild quadrupeds; to provide certain4
penalties; to provide for the use of night vision devices; to provide terms, conditions,5
and requirements; and to provide for related matters.6
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7
Section 1. R.S. 56:116.1(B)(3) is hereby amended and reenacted and R.S. 56:116.68
is hereby enacted to read as follows:9
§116.1.  Wild birds and wild quadrupeds; times and methods of taking; penalties10

B. No person shall do any of the following:12

(3) Take or kill any game bird or wild quadruped with a firearm fitted with14
any device to deaden or silence the sound of the discharge thereof; or fitted with an15
infrared sight, laser sight or except as provided in Paragraph (A)(8) or (D)(2) of this16
Section any sighting device which projects a beam of light to the target or otherwise17
electronically illuminates the target, or device specifically designed to enhance18
vision at night; or with or by means of an automatic loading or hand operated19
repeating shotgun capable of holding more than three shells. Any shotgun capable20
of holding more than three shells shall be plugged with a one-piece filler incapable21
of removal through the loading end, so as to reduce the capacity of the gun to not22
more than three shells at one loading.23

§116.6.  Sound suppressors1
Any person who is authorized to possess a firearm sound suppressor, as2
evidenced by payment and possession of the required federal tax stamp issued3
by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, may use a firearm4
fitted with a sound suppressor when taking game birds, wild quadrupeds,5
outlaw quadrupeds, nutria, or beaver as provided by R.S. 56:116.1. Any person6
who has been convicted of a class four or greater hunting violation for a period7
of five years after the date of such conviction shall not use a firearm fitted with8
a sound suppressor pursuant to this Section.  Possession or use of a sound9
suppressor by a person other than as permitted by this Section shall be10
considered in violation of this Section and shall be punished as a class six11
violation in accordance with the provisions of R.S. 56:36.12
Section 2.  R.S. 56:116.1(D)(3) is hereby repealed.13
