HUNTERS/HUNTING.  Allows the year-round taking of outlaw quadrupeds, nutria, or
beaver during nighttime hours on private property. (8/1/14)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 56:116.1(D)(2), relative to the taking of certain wild quadrupeds;2
to authorize the year-round taking of outlaw quadrupeds, nutria, or beaver at night3
on private property; to provide terms, conditions, and requirements; and to provide4
for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1. R.S. 56:116.1(D)(2) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:7

(2) On private property, the landowner, or his lessee or agent with written12
permission and the landowner's contact information in his possession, may take13
outlaw quadrupeds, nutria, or beaver during nighttime hours from one-half hour after14
official sunset on the last day of February to one-half hour after official sunset the15
last day of August of that same year at any time of year. Such taking may be with16
or without the aid of artificial light, infrared or laser sighting devices, or night vision17 SB NO. 324

devices. Any person attempting to take outlaw quadrupeds under the provisions of1
this Paragraph, within twenty-four hours prior to the attempted taking, shall notify2
the sheriff of the parish in which the property is located of his intention to attempt3
to take outlaw quadrupeds under the provisions of this Paragraph.4

Present law allows the taking of outlaw quadrupeds, nutria and beaver at night from the
beginning of March through Aug. on private property by the landowner or his lessee or
agent, with written permission and the landowner's contact information. Requires
notification to the parish sheriff 24 hours ahead of time of the intent to do so.
Proposed law allows such hunting all year. Retains the notification requirement to the
sheriff.
Effective August 1, 2014.
