Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE BILL NO. 36 BY SENATOR BROWN AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 17:3983.1, relative to charter schools; to require a chartering group to notify2 certain legislators upon submission of an initial charter school proposal or3 application; to specify the information to be included in such notification; to require4 additional notification regarding the disposition of such submission; and to provide5 for related matters.6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7 Section 1. R.S. 17:3983.1 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 8 ยง3983.1. Initial charter school proposals and applications; notification to state9 legislators10 A.(1) At the time a chartering group submits its initial proposal or11 application to operate a charter school to the appropriate chartering authority12 pursuant to the provisions of this Chapter, the chartering authority shall notify13 each state senator and state representative in whose district the charter school14 is to be located that such proposal or application has been submitted. Such15 notification shall be limited to the date the proposal or application was16 submitted, the chartering authority to which the proposal or application was17 submitted, the type of charter school the chartering group seeks to operate, and18 the location of the proposed charter school.19 (2) The chartering authority shall also notify each state senator and state20 representative in whose district the charter school is to be located whether the21 proposal or application to operate a charter school was approved or denied.22 (3) The notifications required by this Section shall be sent by both postal23 mail and electronic mail to each legislator's district office.24 B. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not1 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature2 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana.
