Cortez (SB 37)
Present law provides that, except as otherwise specifically provided by law, civil jurisdiction for
the City Court of Lafayette is concurrent with the district court in cases where the amount in
dispute, or the value of the property involved, does not exceed $15,000.
Proposed law provides that civil jurisdiction for the City Court of Lafayette is concurrent with
the district court in cases where the amount in dispute, or the value of the property involved, does
not exceed $20,000.
Effective August 1, 2014.
