AN ACT1
To amend and reenact Code of Civil Procedure Article 4843(C) and (D), relative to courts2
and jurisdiction; to provide for the civil jurisdiction of certain city courts; to provide3
relative to the City Court of Lafayette; to provide for an increase in the civil4
jurisdictional amount in dispute for the City Court of Lafayette; and to provide for5
related matters.6
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7
Section 1. Code of Civil Procedure Article 4843(C) and (D) are hereby amended and8
reenacted to read as follows:9
Art. 4843. City court jurisdiction; amount in dispute; injunctive actions by state or10
political subdivision11

C. In the City Court of Bossier City, the City Court of Lafayette, the City13
Court of Ville Platte, and any city court in which the population of the territorial14
jurisdiction is less than fifty thousand, except as otherwise specifically provided by15
law, the civil jurisdiction is concurrent with the district court in cases where the16
amount in dispute, or the value of the property involved, does not exceed fifteen17
thousand dollars.18
D. In the City Court of Houma and the City Court of Lafayette, the civil19
jurisdiction is concurrent with the district court in cases where the amount in dispute,20
or the value of the property involved, does not exceed twenty thousand dollars.21
