TRANSPORTATION/DEV DEPT. Provides relative to the composition, purposes, and
functions of the Department of Transportation and Development. (8/1/14)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 36:501(B) and (C) and 507(B), relative to the Department of2
Transportation and Development; to provide for the composition, purposes, and3
functions of the department; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1. R.S. 36:501(B) and (C) and 507(B) are hereby amended and reenacted to6
read as follows: 7
§501. Department of Transportation and Development; creation; domicile;8
composition; purposes and functions9

B. The Department of Transportation and Development department,11
through its offices and officers, shall be responsible for developing and12
implementing programs to assure adequate, safe, and efficient transportation and13
other public works facilities and services in the state in accordance with the transfer14
of agencies and functions made by this Chapter. The department shall develop and15
implement programs in all areas of transportation, including highways, airports,16
waterways, flood protection, and mass transit, as well as public works activities, in17 SB NO. 393

accordance with such transfers.1
C.(1) The Department of Transportation and Development department shall2
be composed of the executive office of the secretary, the office of management and3
finance, the office of engineering, the office of multimodal planning, the office of4
operations, and such other offices as shall be created by law.5
(2) Whenever the secretary determines that the administration of the6
functions of the department may be more efficiently performed by eliminating,7
merging, or consolidating existing offices or establishing new offices, he shall8
present a plan therefor to the legislature for its approval by 	statute law.9

B. The secretary, or in his discretion a subordinate or subordinates appointed13
by him, shall administer the programs of the state relating to the establishment,14
design, construction, extension, improvement, repair, maintenance, and regulation15
of roads, highways, expressways, bridges, and related matters pertaining thereto.16
The secretary, or his designated subordinate, shall develop, prepare, and finalize the17
annual highway construction program authorized by Act 334 of 1974 R.S. 48:22818
through 233.19

Present law provides relative to DOTD.  Provides the department, through its offices and
officers, shall be responsible for developing and implementing programs to assure adequate,
