SENATE BILL NO. 421
BY SENATOR CORTEZ (BY REQUEST) 
SANITARY CODE. Provides that DHH shall set standards limiting certain contaminants
in water from community water systems. (gov sig)
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 40:4.15, relative to community water systems; to provide the office of public2
health the authority to promulgate rules and regulations; to provide for iron and3
manganese control for waters systems; to provide for maximum contaminant levels;4
to provide an effective date; and to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1.  R.S. 40:4.15 is hereby enacted to read as follows:7
ยง4.15. Iron and manganese control for community water systems; maximum8
contaminant levels9
A. The office of public health of the Department of Health and Hospitals10
shall promulgate the appropriate rules and regulations pursuant to the11
Administrative Procedure Act requiring iron and manganese control for all12
community water systems.13
B.  The maximum contaminant level in water from a community water14
system shall not exceed 0.3 milligrams per liter of iron and 0.05 milligrams per15
liter of manganese.16

signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature1
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If2
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become3
effective on the day following such approval.4
