AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 37:1281(B), relative to certain additional fees for the issuance,2
renewal, or reinstatement of physician licenses, permits, certificates, or registrations;3
to authorize the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners to increase the annual4
fee utilized for identification, monitoring, assistance, and procurement of treatment5
of physicians suffering from behavioral, psychiatric, or physical conditions which6
may interfere with their ability to practice medicine; and to provide for related7
matters.8
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:9
Section 1.  R.S. 37:1281(B) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:10

B.(1) In addition to all other applicable fees and costs attendant to the13
issuance, renewal, or reinstatement of any license, certificate, permit, or registration14
issued to a physician by the board pursuant to this Part, the board shall charge and15
collect an additional annual fee of twenty-five fifty dollars from each physician to16
be utilized for the identification, monitoring, assistance, and procurement of17 SB NO. 427

treatment of physicians suffering from substance abuse, chemical dependency,1
psychiatric conditions, or physical deficiencies which may interfere with their ability2
to practice medicine with reasonable skill and safety as defined in R.S.3
37:1285(A)(25).4
(2) The twenty-five fifty dollar fee established in this Subsection shall be5
due and payable at the time of application for the issuance, renewal, or reinstatement6
of any license, permit, certificate, or registration.7

Present law provides that, in addition to all other applicable fees and costs, the LSBME shall
charge a $25 fee at the time of issuance, renewal, or reinstatement of a physician license,
certificate, permit, or registration.
Present law provides that this fee shall be utilized for the identification, monitoring,
assistance, and procurement of treatment of physicians suffering from any of the following:
(1)Substance abuse.
(2)Chemical dependency.
(3)Psychiatric conditions.
(4)Physical deficiencies which may interfere with the physician's ability to practice
medicine with reasonable skill and safety.
Proposed law increases the fee from $25 to $50.
Effective August 1, 2014.
