CLERKS OF COURT.  Provides for automobile expense allowance for certain clerks of
court. (8/1/14)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 13:783(D)(7), relative to clerks of court; to provide for an2
automobile expense allowance for the clerks of court of Allen and St. Bernard3
parishes; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 13:783(D)(7) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:6

Parish, Ouachita Parish, Red River Parish, St. Bernard Parish, St. Charles Parish,14
St. Helena Parish, St. Landry Parish, St. Tammany Parish, Tangipahoa Parish,15
Vermilion Parish, Washington Parish, Webster Parish, West Baton Rouge Parish,16

receive an automobile expense allowance equal to fifteen percent of their annual1
salary provided the clerk of court maintains three hundred thousand dollars of2
automobile insurance per accident for bodily injury and one hundred thousand3
dollars of automobile insurance per accident for property damage. The expense4
allowance shall come from surplus funds in each of the offices of the clerks of court5
and at no additional expense to the state or local governing authority.6

Present law provides that in Acadia Parish, Cameron Parish, East Feliciana Parish, Iberia
Parish, Red River Parish, St. Tammany Parish, Tangipahoa Parish, Washington Parish, and
West Feliciana Parish, the clerks of the district courts of those parishes may receive an
automobile expense allowance equal to 15% of their annual salary, provided that the clerk
of court maintains $300,000 of automobile insurance per accident for bodily injury and
$100,000 of automobile insurance per accident for property damage. 
Present law further provides that the expense allowance is to come from surplus funds in
each of the offices of the clerks of court and at no additional expense to the state or local
governing authority.
Proposed law retains present law and adds the clerks of court for Allen and St. Bernard
parishes to the list of clerks of court who are allowed to receive an automobile expense
allowance.
Effective August 1, 2014.
