EMPLOYMENT.  Provides for a state minimum wage. (1/1/15)
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 23:643, relative to payment of employees; to provide for a state minimum2
wage of ten dollars an hour; to provide for exclusions; to provide for an effective3
date; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 23:643 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6
ยง643.  Minimum wage, established7
A. The Legislature of Louisiana finds that economic stability and growth8
are among the most important factors affecting the general welfare of the9
people of this state and are, therefore, among its own most important10
responsibilities.11
B.  Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the state12
minimum wage shall be ten dollars an hour, effective on and after January 1,13
2015.14
C. (1) The provisions of this Section shall not apply to student employees15
as defined in State Civil Service Rule 1.5.1, and employees of state colleges and16

(2) An employer may take a tip credit toward its minimum wage1
obligation for tipped employees equal to the difference between the required2
cash wage and the required minimum wage.3
