AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 15:572.1(A)(1)(c) and (G)(2), relative to the Board of Pardons;2
to provide for minimum qualifications for board members; to provide for powers of3
ex officio board members; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1. R.S. 15:572.1(A)(1)(c) and (G)(2) are hereby amended and reenacted to6
read as follows: 7
ยง572.1.  Board of Pardons; membership; domicile; session; quorum8
A.(1)(a) *          *          *9
(c)  All Beginning with appointments made to the board, or10
appointments to fill a vacancy on the board, which occur after August 1, 2014,11
all members, except for the ex officio member, shall have not less than a12
bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, and shall possess not13
less than five years actual experience in the field of penology, corrections, law14
enforcement, sociology, law, education, social work, medicine, psychology,15
psychiatry, or a combination thereof.  If a member does not have a bachelor's16
degree from an accredited college or university, he shall have no less than seven17
years experience in a field listed in this Subparagraph. The provisions of this18
Subparagraph shall not apply to any person serving as a member of the board on19
August 1, 2012.20

(2) The ex officio member shall not be a voting member and shall not be1
counted or permitted to be counted for purposes of the number of members necessary2
to take board action or the number of members necessary to establish a quorum. In3
all other respects, the ex officio member shall have all the duties, authority, and4
requirements of any other board member.5
