AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 13:2582(A)(2) and 2583(A)(2), relative to officers of justice of2
the peace courts; to remove certain exceptions from age requirements to serve or run3
for such offices; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1. R.S. 13:2582(A)(2) and 2583(A)(2) are hereby amended and reenacted6
to read as follows:7
§2582. Justices of the peace; qualifications; election; term of office; nullity; persons8
ineligible9
A.(1) *          *          *10
(2)(a) Beginning in the year 2008, to qualify to run for the office of justice11
of the peace, a person shall not have attained the age of seventy years by the date of12
qualification to run for office. A justice of the peace who attains seventy years of age13
while serving a term of office shall be allowed to complete that term of office.14
(b) The provisions of Subparagraph (a) of this Paragraph shall not apply to15
those justices of the peace who are serving as a justice of the peace or elected to the16
office of justice of the peace on or before August 15, 2006.17

§2583. Constables; election; term of office; qualifications19
A.(1) *          *          *20
(2)(a) Beginning in the year 2008, to qualify to run for the office of constable,21
a person shall not have attained the age of seventy years by the date of qualification22
to run for office. A constable who attains seventy years of age while serving a term23
of office shall be allowed to complete that term of office.24
(b) The provisions of Subparagraph (a) of this Paragraph shall not apply to25
those constables who are serving as a constable or elected to the office of constable26
