Gary Smith (SB 613) Act No. 771 Prior law provided a schedule for state contributions of the total premium payable to the Office of Group Benefits (OGB) for retirees. Provided for a maximum state contribution of 75%. New law retains prior law and provides for a 75% state contribution for any person who retired on or after May 1, 2013, and on or before May 31, 2013, who participated in OGB health insurance for more than 18 years, whose doctor certifies that on the date of his retirement he was medically unable to perform his job duties, if the sum of his accumulated unused leave on his retirement date plus his years of participation in OGB, rounded to the nearest year, is 20 years or more. New law eligible for participation in a program offered by OGB, was employed by the Office of Community Relations and Rural Development after January 1, 2004, who subsequently is elected to a statewide office, the legislature, the Public Service Commission, the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, or as a judge to a state court of appeal of the Louisiana Supreme Court, and who has participated in the Office of Group Benefits continuously during his state employment, shall, upon retirement, be eligible to maintain enrollment in the Office of Group Benefits program with a minimum state contribution of his premium of 75% of the total premium.
