Regular Session, 2014 SENATE BILL NO. 615 BY SENATOR LAFLEUR LAW ENFORCEMENT. Increases the number of authorized Coushatta Indian tribal officers eligible for state supplemental pay. (7/1/14) AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 33:2218.2(F)(3), relative to state supplemental compensation for2 certain law enforcement officers; to increase the number of Coushatta Indian tribal3 officers eligible for additional compensation; to delete certain limitations; to provide4 for an effective date; and to provide for related matters.5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6 Section 1. R.S. 33:2218.2(F)(3) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:7 ยง2218.2. Rate of compensation; prior service; supplemental monthly compensation;8 police to receive additional compensation9 * * *10 F. * * *11 (3) Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the12 compensation for tribal officers of the Coushatta Indian Tribe of Louisiana shall be13 for no more than eight sixteen such law enforcement officers, subject to approval by14 the sheriff of Allen Parish.15 * * *16 Section 2. DIGEST LaFleur (SB 615) Present law provides state supplemental pay of $500 per month to qualified full-time police officers who have completed one year of service, are employed full-time by a municipality or certain tribes, and if hired after March 31,1986, are certified by the Council on Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T. certified). Present law limits the number of tribal officers from the Coushatta Tribe of La. eligible for supplemental pay to eight. Further requires the sheriff of Allen Parish to approve the compensation of the Coushatta tribal officers. Proposed law increases the number of eligible officers for the Coushatta Tribe of La. from eight to 16. Further deletes the requirement that the sheriff of Allen Parish approve the compensation of Coushatta tribal officers. Effective July 1, 2014. (Amends R.S. 33:2218.2(F)(3))
