LOCAL EMPLOYEES. Provides relative to the New Iberia Municipal Employees Civil
Service System. (gov sig)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact Section 2(B) of Act No. 399 of the 1966 Regular Session of the2
Legislature, relative to the New Iberia Municipal Employees Civil Service System;3
to provide for membership of the board; to provide for an effective date; and to4
provide for related matters.5
Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.6
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7
Section 1. Section 2(B) of Act No. 399 of the 1966 Regular Session of the8
Legislature is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:9
NEW IBERIA MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES CIVIL SERVICE SYSTEM10

ยง2. Municipal Government Employees Civil Service Board. There is hereby12
created a Municipal Government Employees Civil Service Board of the City of New13
Iberia, Louisiana. The said Board shall be composed of five (5) members and shall14
serve without compensation. The Board shall have a chairman and vice-chairman.15
The Director of Personnel of the Municipal Government Employees Civil Service16
shall be ex-officio secretary of the Board without right of vote. The domicile of the17 SB NO. 65

Board shall be in the City of New Iberia, Louisiana.1

(B) The members of the said Board for the City of New Iberia shall be3
appointed by the Mayor and Board of Trustees and Employees of the Department of4
Public Works and Park and Recreation Department of the City of New Iberia during5
the sixty (60) day period immediately following the effective date of this Act as6
follows:7
One member shall be appointed by the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the8
City of New Iberia for a term of five (5) years.9
One member shall be an employee of the city of New Iberia and appointed10
by the employees for the Department of Public Works and Park and Recreation11
Department of the City of New Iberia for a term of four (4) years.12
The remaining three (3) members shall be appointed by the Mayor and Board13
of Trustees for terms of one (1) year, two (2) years and three (3) years from a list of14
twelve (12) names submitted by the Executive Committee of the Iberia Parish Bar15
Association and the Executive Committee of the New Iberia Chamber of Commerce.16

Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not18
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature19
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If20
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become21
effective on the day following such approval.22

Present law provides that one member of the New Iberia Municipal Government Employees
Civil Service Board is to be appointed by the employees for the Department of Public Works
and Park and Recreation Department of the City of New Iberia.
Proposed law requires that the member appointed to the Municipal Government Employees
Civil Service Board shall be an employee of the city of New Iberia. SB NO. 65
