AN ACT1
To enact Chapter 20-A-3 of Title 17 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, to be2
comprised of R.S. 17:3041.31, relative to medical and dental school scholarships; to3
provide for eligibility; to provide for funding; to provide for rules, and to provide for4
related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1. Chapter 20-A-3 of Title 17 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950,7
comprised of R.S. 17:3041.31 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 8
CHAPTER 20-A-3. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR LOUISIANA STATE9
UNIVERSITY HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER10
MEDICAL AND DENTAL SCHOOL STUDENTS11

A. The Louisiana Student Financial Assistance Commission, hereinafter15
referred to as "the commission", shall provide for and administer a scholarship16
program for students who meet all of the following eligibility criteria:17 SB NO. 659

(1) Are bona fide citizens and residents of the state of Louisiana.1
(2) Desire to become doctors of medicine or dental surgery.2
(3) Are acceptable for enrollment at one of the medical or dental schools3
of Louisiana State University.4
B. The commission, in collaboration with the Louisiana State University5
Health Sciences Center, shall accept and review applications for such6
scholarship programs and shall determine the recipients of the scholarships.7
C. Implementation of this scholarship program as provided for in this8
Chapter shall be subject to available public or private funding.9
D. The commission shall prescribe such rules and regulations as it deems10
necessary and proper to implement provisions of this Chapter in accordance11
with the Administrative Procedure Act.12

Proposed law requires the Louisiana Student Financial Assistance Commission (LSFAC) to
provide for and administer a scholarship program for students who meet all of the following
eligibility criteria:
(1)Are bona fide citizens and residents of the state of Louisiana.
(2)Desire to become doctors of medicine or dental surgery.
(3)Are acceptable for enrollment at one of the medical or dental schools of Louisiana
State University.
Proposed law requires LSFAC, in collaboration with the Louisiana State University Health
Sciences Center, to accept and review applications for such scholarship program and
determine the recipients of the scholarships.
Proposed law provides that implementation of this scholarship program is subject to
available public or private funding.
Proposed law requires LSFAC to prescribe such rules and regulations as it deems necessary
and proper in accordance with the APA.
Effective August 1, 2014.
