A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
death of Sherrie Hardie Thompson.
WHEREAS, it is with great sadness and profound sorrow that the citizens and the
Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the death of Sherrie Hardie Thompson, on April 25,
2014, at the age of sixty; and
WHEREAS, Sherrie Hardie was born on March 19, 1954, to Billy and Nell Hardie;
she was raised in Jonesville, Louisiana, graduated Block High School, and attended
Northwestern State University and Louisiana State University; and
WHEREAS, always possessing a beautiful presence and gifted with intelligence,
character and grace, she was active in numerous pageants, capturing the titles of Miss
Jonesville, Miss Louisiana Shrimp Queen, and Miss Northwestern State University; and
WHEREAS, after college, Sherrie moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and worked
as a legislative aide and later as a staff member to former Governor Edwin Edwards and then
Secretary of State Paul Hardy; and
WHEREAS, she also twice served as a delegate for the Democratic National
Convention in Atlanta and New York; and
WHEREAS, Sherrie had a passion for the film industry, and in the 1970s,
participated in the making of several movies being filmed in the Baton Rouge area, including
a movie with Nashville star Kenny Rogers; and
WHEREAS, it was during one such film project that Mrs. Thompson met and
introduced well-known and respected Hollywood actor Kurt Russell to her famous fried eggs
and bologna sandwiches; and SCR NO. 114	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, Sherrie Hardie Thompson was an exemplary and highly admired citizen
of Louisiana who worked tirelessly on a multitude of business, civic, political, and religious
causes throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, she was a loving, devoted, and dedicated wife to her husband, state
Senator Steve Thompson, a committed and cherished mother, grandmother, daughter, sister,
relative and friend whose love of family was of the utmost importance in her life; and
WHEREAS, because of her numerous accomplishments in public and private life,
the death of Sherrie Hardie Thompson has left a void in her community, town, and state, and
has created a genuine sense of profound sorrow in her friends and family.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana hereby honors
the extraordinary life of Sherrie Hardie Thompson and pays tribute to her remarkable legacy
and expresses sincere condolences to her family on the occasion of her death.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to her
husband, Senator Steve Thompson.
