Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 130 BY SENATOR ALARIO A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To designate May 14, 2014, as Louisiana Housing Council Day at the Legislature and commend the organization for its accomplishments. WHEREAS, the Louisiana Housing Council is composed of over two hundred public housing entities that are subdivided into six regions across the state; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana Housing Council promotes and advances the availability of affordable housing to approximately seventeen thousand low-income residents, of which more than one-fourth are elderly and handicapped; and WHEREAS, many of its member agencies provide a number of services related to housing issues, which include job training, home ownership assistance, protective services, child care, educational assistance, and youth services; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana Housing Council strives to create stronger, more dynamic communities and works together with other local agencies to enhance the quality of life for citizens throughout the state; and WHEREAS, the LHC awards scholarships to high school students based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, family need, and community involvement; and WHEREAS, the organization honors the achievements of its outstanding members who promote excellence in housing administration with exemplary leadership, high ethical standards, and exceptional management skills with the presentation of the Philip W. Miller award; and WHEREAS, the council constantly strives to provide decent, safe, and sanitary housing and to reduce crime, poor health, and blighted property, thereby benefitting society as a whole; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana Housing Council will hold its annual Legislative Conference in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, May 13-16, 2014. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate May 14, 2014, as Louisiana Housing Council Day at the Legislature.
