SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 141
BY SENATOR LONG AND REPRESENTATI VES BROWN AND COX 
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend and congratulate Joe Macaluso for receiving the 2014 Distinguished Service
Award in Sports Journalism and on being named to the Louisiana Sports Hall of
Fame Induction Class.
WHEREAS, the Distinguished Service Award in Sports Journalism is the most
prestigious honor offered to sports media in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, inductees are carefully chosen after an extensive deliberation by a
thirty-member expert panel of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame selection committee based
on their professional accomplishments in local, state, regional and national arenas; and
WHEREAS, as one of Louisiana's most respected, admired and recognized outdoor
writers, Mr. Macaluso's forty-plus year career includes extensive work covering a wide array
of sports beats for the print media and also serving as a TV show host and correspondent on
outdoor activities; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Macaluso's first byline story appeared in March 1970, in the Baton
Rouge Advocate, and he has worked steadily for the Baton Rouge State-Times and then the
Advocate since his first publication and remains in their employ today as the "Fishing Report
& The Wild Side" columnist; and 
WHEREAS, Mr. Macaluso has been awarded or recognized more than seventy times
as a top three finisher for his work by state, regional and national professional organizations;
and
WHEREAS, his most notable awards include the Associated Press national honors
for a series, then the game story on Eddie Robinson breaking Bear Bryant's career win record
and a series of stories on the devastating effects of Hurricane Andrew on the Atchafalaya

WHEREAS, Mr. Macaluso was a recipient of the Governor's Conservationist of the
Year Award in the Communicator Category in 2007, received the Arthur Van Pelt Lifetime
Achievement Award from the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association in 2010, and was
named to the Louisiana American-Italian Sports Hall of Fame in 2011; and
WHEREAS, venturing into television, Mr. Macaluso conceived the idea, then was
director and co-host for the award winning "Paradise Louisiana", a groundbreaking one-hour
outdoors magazine TV show airing weekly on Louisiana cable systems for nearly ten years;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Macaluso has also been an outdoors reporter for WBRZ-TV in
Baton Rouge, the Louisiana contributor to the World Encyclopedia of Fishing, a
correspondent for Sports Illustrated, and a contributing writer for Baseball America; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Macaluso is a beloved figure among his colleagues and especially
to his readers and the people in the Baton Rouge area and is truly deserving of this
prestigious honor.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
recognize the numerous accomplishments and extraordinary career of Joe Macaluso and
commends and congratulates him for receiving the 2014 Distinguished Service Award in
Sports Journalism and on being named to the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction
Class. 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Joe
Macaluso.
