Regular Session, 2014	ENROLLED
SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 145
BY SENATOR MORRISH AND REPRESENTATIVE HENSGENS
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend the Hackberry High School girls' basketball team for winning the Class C state
championship.
WHEREAS, relying on good defense, twenty-fo ur points from the tournament's most
outstanding player, Destiny Simon, and teamwork throughout, the Hackberry High School
Lady Mustangs celebrated winning the Class C state girls' basketball title; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Mustangs defeated the Summerfield High School Lady Rebels
by a final score of 46-35; and
WHEREAS, the Hackberry girls failed to score a three-point shot until two minutes
into the final quarter of the game, but the post play of Destiny Simon and steady play by the
entire team led the Lady Mustangs to the state title; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Mustangs are coached by Jay Bergeron, who was named
Coach of the Year for Class C girls' basketball; and
WHEREAS, Destiny Simon, a five feet ten inch senior, took five of the Lady
Mustangs' first seven shots, which established her presence down low on the post and also
her ability to drive to the goal for a score and set up the Hackberry lead early in the first half
that they would not ever fully relinquish; and
WHEREAS, Coach Jay Bergeron complimented Mustang reserve, Kaye Leigh La
Bove, saying that she was just faster than their opponents and that speed helped compensate
for the loss of Simon on the bench with her fourth foul in the fourth quarter; and
WHEREAS, Skylar Jinks, who had made six three-pointers in the semifinal game,
committed two quick fouls in the championship game and went to the bench, reducing her
role in the final game, but she did finish with eight rebounds and one three-point basket at
a time that was very advantageous for the Mustangs; and
WHEREAS, Lady Mustang Jolie Trahan played in thirty-four games this season and
scored a total of two hundred ninety-three points, a per game average of 8.6 points, and was
named to the Class C girls' basketball all state team, joining Destiny Simon on that team. SCR NO. 145	ENROLLED
