SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 147
BY SENATOR MORRISH AND REPRESENTATIVE HENSGENS 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Hackberry High School, especially the senior members
of the teams, for winning the 2014 Class C state championship in girls' basketball softball,
and  track and field.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend the Hackberry High School, especially the senior members of the teams, for2
winning the 2014 Class C state championship in girls' basketball, softball, and track3
and field.4
WHEREAS, the considerable athletic success which the girls of Hackberry High5
School have achieved is the product of many factors, among them, athletic ability,6
commitment, persistence, practice, and coaching; and7
WHEREAS, Hackberry High School is a small school of approximately sixty8
students, yet this group of girls, led by members of the Class of 2014, have collected six9
Class C state championships while in high school: four softball championships, one team10
track and field championship, and one basketball championship; and11
WHEREAS, the girls of Hackberry High School have indeed set a lofty standard for12
young women following in their footsteps in any of these sports; and13
WHEREAS, leading the Hackberry High School girls in their athletic endeavors14
since 2011 have been Destiny Simon, Jolie Trahan, Mattie Stine, and Skylar Jinks; and15
WHEREAS, Simon, Trahan, and Stine played all three sports for all of their four16
years in high school, basketball, softball, and track and field; Jinks played basketball and17
participated in track and field for all four years; and18 SCR NO. 147

WHEREAS, the commitment of these and all the girls at Hackberry High School1
who participate in multiple sports is particularly evident in the fact that softball and track and2
field are played at the same time, requiring long hours of practice for each of these distinct3
sports; and4
WHEREAS, Simon, Stine, Trahan, and Jinks have earned the confidence which they5
demonstrate and they are appropriately proud of the recognition they have earned for their6
high school and their town; and7
WHEREAS, the girls explain that they love the sports in which they have excelled8
and that their goals of winning state championships have driven them daily to practice hard9
and to encourage each other to improve everyday; and10
WHEREAS, the determination of these young women and their subsequent success11
in their athletic endeavors serves as a powerful example to all who will follow at Hackberry12
High School.13
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby14
commend the girls of Hackberry High School, especially the senior members of the teams,15
for winning the 2014 Class C state championships in girls basketball, softball, and track and16
field.17
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to18
Carl Langley, principal of Hackberry High School.19
