SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 152

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend Shane Reynolds on being named to the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame
Induction Class.
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens and Legislature of Louisiana have
learned of the prestigious honor bestowed upon Shane Reynolds on his induction in the
Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, the inductees are chosen after extensive deliberations by an expert panel
of Louisiana Sports Writers' Association members from across the state who annually
consider more than one hundred twenty nominees for this honor; and
WHEREAS, Shane Reynolds was born on March 26, 1968, and is a native of
Bastrop, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Shane Reynolds was a standout at Ouachita Christian School in
Monroe, Louisiana, and at the University of Texas; and
WHEREAS, a third round draft pick in the 1989 Major League Baseball draft, he was
one of the top pitchers in the National League and the Houston Astros' ace in the mid to late
1990's; and
WHEREAS, he pitched thirteen seasons in the majors and had a 114-96 career record
with the Astros from 1992 to 2002, with whom he earned multiple opening day starts; and
WHEREAS, in 2000, he had a 103-86 record with the Astros making the 2000 All-
Star game, and he led the National League in both 1998 and 1999 with thirty-five starts both
of those seasons; and
WHEREAS, he won ten or more games six times in his career, with his best season
coming in 1998 when he was 19-8 with a 3.51 ERA and 209 strikeouts, he also won sixteen
games in 1996 and in 1999, and finished in the top 10 in strikeouts five times in his career
between 1994 to 1999; and
WHEREAS, Shane Reynolds knew how to handle a bat for a pitcher, posting a .141

WHEREAS, his work ethic was compared to that of Nolan Ryan by longtime Astros
trainer Dr. Gene Coleman; and
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depends, in great measure, upon the dedication
of extraordinary men like Shane Reynolds who strive to show others through hard work and
dedication that all dreams are possible.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and congratulate Shane Reynolds on his impressive and successful baseball career
and on being named as an inductee to the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Shane Reynolds.
