Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 158 BY SENATORS LONG AND GALLOT AND REPRESENTATIVES BROWN AND COX A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To commend Alan Faneca on being named to the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class. WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens and state of Louisiana have learned of the prestigious honor bestowed upon Alan Faneca on his induction into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, the inductees are chosen after extensive deliberations by a panel of Louisiana Sports Writers' Association members from across the state who annually consider more than one hundred twenty nominees for this honor; and WHEREAS, Alan Faneca was born December 7, 1976, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and after completing high school in Texas, joined the LSU Tiger Football Team in 1994; and WHEREAS, during his successful career at LSU, he was named Southeastern Conference freshman of the year by the Knoxville Sentinel in 1995, was selected as a second-team All-American in 1996, and in 1997; and WHEREAS, he was recognized as a consensus first-team All-American and was also one of three finalists for the Outland Trophy; and WHEREAS, after his stellar college football career, he was chosen in the first round of the NFL draft as the 26 th overall pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers and went on to play ten years with that team, two with the New York Jets, and one with the Arizona Cardinals; and WHEREAS, during his professional football career he started two hundred and one of two hundred and six games, played on the Steelers team that won Superbowl XL, was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame's All-2000s team, was chosen to be on the Steelers' seventy-fifth anniversary all-time team in 2007, was voted to nine consecutive Pro Bowls, and was a six-time Associated Press All-Pro first team pick; and WHEREAS, beyond his career as a star football player, Alan Faneca is a survivor of epilepsy and devotes much of his time and energy doing charitable work for the Epilepsy Foundation of America; and SCR NO. 158 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Alan Faneca possesses the character, skills, and talents worthy of being named to the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Alan Faneca on being named to the 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class.
