SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 168

COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Chris Shivers on his accomplishments as a professional
bull riding champion and upon his retirement from competition.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend Chris Shivers on his accomplishments as a professional bull riding champion2
and upon his retirement from competition.3
WHEREAS, Chris Shivers was born on December 30, 1978, in Jonesville; and4
WHEREAS, at the age of thirteen, he mounted his first bull at one of several local5
practice pens; and6
WHEREAS, at the age of fifteen, he won a brand new truck and by the time he was7
sixteen years old, he was winning money at every event he entered; and8
WHEREAS, Chris turned pro at the age of eighteen and has ridden in events9
sponsored by the Professional Bull Riders, Inc. since that time; and10
WHEREAS, in 1996, he was the Louisiana State High School Bull Riding Champion11
as well as a qualifier in the National High School Rodeo finals; and12
WHEREAS, he was the first professional bull rider to win more than three million13
dollars in prize money in one year, and the first professional bull rider to reach the one14
million dollar, two million dollar, and three million dollar marks; and15
WHEREAS, Chris was also the first to earn a one million dollar world championship16
bonus, and the first to register thirteen ninety-point rides in one season; and17
WHEREAS, he achieved ninety-three career ninety-point bull rides, the most of any18 SCR NO. 168

rider in professional bull rider history, and was the ninety-point club champion in 2000; and1
WHEREAS, during his career, Chris qualified for the professional bull rider finals2
fifteen times, and scored twenty-two career wins in the Bud Light Cup/Built Ford Tough3
Series; and4
WHEREAS, he retired from competition after the 2012 professional bull riding5
season and resides in Jonesville with his wife, Kylie, and his two sons; and6
WHEREAS, in addition to his many achievements in professional bull riding,7
Chris Shivers is a deeply beloved member of the Jonesville community who has earned the8
respect and admiration of the countless citizens whose lives he has touched; and9
WHEREAS, Chris Shivers, one of Louisiana's finest sons, merits a special measure10
of commendation for his singular achievements as a professional bull rider and ambassador11
for Louisiana.12
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby13
commend and congratulate Chris Shivers for his outstanding accomplishments as a14
professional bull rider and his retirement from competition, does hereby recognize and15
record for posterity his exceptional achievements, and does hereby extend enduring16
appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that he brings to his family and friends, to17
the Jonesville community, to the state of Louisiana, and to the United States of America.18
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to19
Chris Shivers.20
