SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 168

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend Chris Shivers on his accomplishments as a professional bull riding champion
and upon his retirement from competition.
WHEREAS, Chris Shivers was born on December 30, 1978, in Jonesville; and
WHEREAS, at the age of thirteen, he mounted his first bull at one of several local
practice pens; and
WHEREAS, at the age of fifteen, he won a brand new truck and by the time he was
sixteen years old, he was winning money at every event he entered; and
WHEREAS, Chris turned pro at the age of eighteen and has ridden in events
sponsored by the Professional Bull Riders, Inc. since that time; and
WHEREAS, in 1996, he was the Louisiana State High School Bull Riding Champion
as well as a qualifier in the National High School Rodeo finals; and
WHEREAS, he was the first professional bull rider to win more than three million
dollars in prize money in one year, and the first professional bull rider to reach the one
million dollar, two million dollar, and three million dollar marks; and
WHEREAS, Chris was also the first to earn a one million dollar world championship
bonus, and the first to register thirteen ninety-point rides in one season; and
WHEREAS, he achieved ninety-three career ninety-point bull rides, the most of any
rider in professional bull rider history, and was the ninety-point club champion in 2000; and
WHEREAS, during his career, Chris qualified for the professional bull rider finals
fifteen times, and scored twenty-two career wins in the Bud Light Cup/Built Ford Tough
Series; and
WHEREAS, he retired from competition after the 2012 professional bull riding
season and resides in Jonesville with his wife, Kylie, and his two sons; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his many achievements in professional bull riding,
Chris Shivers is a deeply beloved member of the Jonesville community who has earned the
respect and admiration of the countless citizens whose lives he has touched; and SCR NO. 168	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, Chris Shivers, one of Louisiana's finest sons, merits a special measure
of commendation for his singular achievements as a professional bull rider and ambassador
for Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and congratulate Chris Shivers for his outstanding accomplishments as a
professional bull rider and his retirement from competition, does hereby recognize and
record for posterity his exceptional achievements, and does hereby extend enduring
appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that he brings to his family and friends, to
the Jonesville community, to the state of Louisiana, and to the United States of America.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Chris Shivers.
