Page 1 of 3 Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 23 BY SENATORS CROWE AND ALARI O A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the passing of New Orleans television personality and legend, Frank Davis. WHEREAS, Frank Davis will be remembered best for his jovial tag line from his television broadcasts, "Naturally N'Awlins", with which he concluded each of his interviews; and WHEREAS, Frank Davis was a WWL radio and television star for almost four decades, from 1974 until his health-related retirement in 2011; and WHEREAS, he was known for his outdoor acumen, culinary skills, love of Carnival, Crescent City accent, and affable demeanor; and WHEREAS, he was a bonafide New Orleanian born on North Tonti Street in 1943 and was educated at St. Joseph Elementary School, Sacred Heart of Jesus High School, and Louisiana State University in New Orleans, now known as the University of New Orleans; and WHEREAS, he later concluded his education at Charity Hospital where he studied to become an X-ray technician; and WHEREAS, Frank Davis married his beloved wife, Mary Clare, in 1968, while serving a stint in the Louisiana National Guard; and WHEREAS, Frank Davis' broadcast career began while working in public relations with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries where a WWL radio producer noticed his outdoorsman expertise and offered him weekend work at the station, hosting live sportsman's talk shows; and WHEREAS, Frank Davis engulfed himself so much in his broadcasts that the broadcasts ranged from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, never leaving him SCR NO. 23 ENROLLED Page 2 of 3 at a loss for words; and WHEREAS, he was adored by all he encountered, both in person and through radio and television, because he was a part of the heart of New Orleans; and WHEREAS, his former coworkers stated his jocular, energetic, on-air personality was absolutely genuine because he loved to make people smile, laugh and was simply fun to be around; and WHEREAS, he never missed one Mardi Gras in thirty years and always celebrated the things that were unique in New Orleans because he believed the city had a very special and unique culture, and he always reminded everyone what it was like to be "Naturally N'Awlins"; and WHEREAS, he was the perfect guide to both the secret wetland fishing locations and the proper use of a cast iron skillet; and WHEREAS, Frank Davis had a passion for cooking and feeding those in need, which was exemplified during hurricanes when he set up his studio kitchen to feed the cast and crew during the long hours of storm coverage; and WHEREAS, Frank Davis had become a leader in the region's passion for Creole cooking by the time he retired in 2011, hosted a Tuesday morning cooking demonstration with Mary Clare, and wrote five cookbooks; and WHEREAS, he was truly an honorable man who committed his life to his hometown and his neighbors across the city; and WHEREAS, Frank Davis spent his last glorious days in Texas where he and his wife relocated to be closer to his daughter, Amanda, and grandchildren; however, he certainly did not want to leave his home in Slidell; and WHEREAS, he died at the age of seventy-one and is survived by his wife, Mary Clare Bruscato Davis; mother, Rosina Sellier Davis; sister, Rosina Marie Davis Smith; daughter, Amanda Clare Davis Landry; and four precious grandchildren: Elisabeth Clare Davis, Matthew Davis Landry, Zachary Joseph Landry, and Benjamin Hughes Landry. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the passing of New Orleans television personality and legend, Frank Davis.
