Page 1 of 1 Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 3 BY SENATOR MILLS A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To urge and request the Senate Committee on Senate and Governmental Affairs and the House Committee on House and Governmental Affairs to meet and function as a joint committee to study and make recommendations with respect to implementing background checks for candidates for political office. WHEREAS, there is currently no requirement that candidates for political office undergo background checks; and WHEREAS, verifying the qualification of political candidates on qualification forms is important to all Louisiana citizens; and WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of the legislature to examine the issues of candidate candor and qualification to ensure the fairness of Louisiana elections. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana hereby requests the members of the Senate Committee on Senate and Governmental Affairs and the House Committee on House and Governmental Affairs to meet and function as a joint committee to study and make recommendations with respect to the possibility of requiring background checks of candidates for political office to determine whether each candidate meets the qualifications provided by law and the Constitution of Louisiana for the particular office. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the joint committee may submit recommendations to the Legislature of Louisiana by January 1, 2015. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
