SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 38

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend Amanda Baudot Morehouse on being selected as the 2013 Louisiana High
School Teacher of the Year.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Teacher of the Year Program, which is cosponsored by
the Louisiana Department of Education, the State Board of Elementary and Secondary
Education, and Dream Teachers, is an annual event that recognizes and honors top
performing teachers in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Amanda Baudot Morehouse, a teacher at Hahnville High School in St.
Charles Parish, received the 2013 Louisiana High School Teacher of the Year award during
the Sixth Annual Cecil J. Picard Educator Excellence Symposium on July 12, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Morehouse began her teaching career at Hahnville High School in
2006 teaching English, creative writing, and reading; and
WHEREAS, at Hahnville High School, she is a senior project mentor, a professional
learning community facilitator for English II, a new teacher mentor, scholastic writing
coordinator, and English tutor; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Morehouse holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Creative
Writing with a minor in communication studies from Louisiana State University, and has
completed twenty-seven hours toward her master's degree in English Literature from the
University of New Orleans; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Morehouse is certified in secondary English from the Louisiana
Resource Center for Education; and
WHEREAS, she is a member of the Louisiana Reading Association with the National
Council of Teachers of English and serves as a teacher consultant for the Greater New

WHEREAS, as a Louisiana Teacher of the Year, Ms. Morehouse received prizes
from local merchants and a monetary award in the amount of two thousand five hundred
dollars from Dream Teachers in recognition of her outstanding achievements as a
professional educator in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, she is held in the highest regard by her students and colleagues for her
remarkable ability to motivate students to succeed beyond their own expectations, and
because she has demonstrated a dedicated spirit and an intense determination to improve the
quality of education in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication
of teachers like Amanda Baudot Morehouse.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and congratulate Amanda Baudot Morehouse for the exemplary strides she has
taken in molding young minds, for the joy and pride she has brought to her entire community
and to the state of Louisiana, and to congratulate her and her family, friends, students,
administration, and colleagues as they commemorate this most significant and unforgettable
achievement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Amanda Baudot Morehouse.
