SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 43
BY SENATOR CROWE AND REPRESENTATI VE PEARSON 
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To designate the week of April 6 through 12, 2014, as "Junior Auxiliary Week" at the
Louisiana Legislature.
WHEREAS, the Junior Auxiliary of Slidell, Louisiana, is a chapter of the National
Association of Junior Auxiliaries, Inc., which is a national nonprofit organization that
encourages member chapters to render charitable services which are beneficial to the general
public, with particular emphasis on children, and to coordinate with other organizations
performing similar services; and
WHEREAS, the Junior Auxiliary of Slidell, originally the Slidell Service League,
was founded in 1965 by a group of fifteen women who were brought together by their desire
to help the needy and underprivileged in a city that had doubled in population in the previous
five years; and
WHEREAS, in 1968, the Slidell Service League was incorporated into the National
Association of Junior Auxiliaries and in 1999 became the "Junior Auxiliary of Slidell"; and
WHEREAS, through the last nearly forty years, the Junior Auxiliary of Slidell has
served their community through a variety of projects and in 2013, provided more than 1800
hours of volunteer service and spent more than $25,000 to directly serve over eleven
thousand residents of the Slidell area; and
WHEREAS, the projects of the Junior Auxiliary of Slidell include a new project of
sponsoring the first annual 2014 "Mad Hatter 5K and Fun Run", aimed at both fundraising
and encouraging healthy lifestyles; a pilot project for the 2013-14 school year of
"Backpacks4Kids" which provides food for the weekend to a group of kindergarten students
at one of Slidell's public schools; an annual "Tour of Homes" which provides funds for other
projects; in cooperation with Slidell Memorial Hospital, the auxiliary is sponsoring "A Day
for Girls' Health", an outreach to teenage girls in the Slidell area; and the ongoing project SCR NO. 43	ENROLLED

of awarding the Pat Fritchie Memorial Scholarship to four qualified students from the Slidell
area public high schools in the amount of one thousand dollars for each student, to defray
the costs of education beyond high school; and
WHEREAS, the Junior Auxiliary of Slidell also oversees the "Juniors in Service"
program each year for students who are juniors in Slidell area high schools; and
WHEREAS, these high school students are given the opportunity to build both
leadership skills and a commitment to community by completing a minimum of twelve hours
of service within the Slidell community; and
WHEREAS, the Junior Auxiliary of Slidell has over the years sponsored "Christmas
Under the Stars", "JA Water Day", "JA Women's Build" and "Literacy Liaison", all projects
that provide hands-on service to citizens in the Slidell community; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Junior Auxiliary of Slidell, through their nearly
forty years of community service which has touched the lives of thousands of people in the
Slidell community, are committed to being active and constructive participants in the public
life of their city and its residents. 
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
designate the week of April 6 through 12, 2014, as "Junior Auxiliary Week" at the Louisiana
Legislature.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Junior Auxiliary of Slidell.
