SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 58
BY SENATOR GALLOT AND REPRESENTATIVE SHADOIN 
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend Tom Thompson on his retirement and for twenty years of meritorious and
dedicated service as the chairman of Lincoln Parish Fire Protection District No. 1.
WHEREAS, the Lincoln Parish Fire Protection District No. 1 was created for the
citizens of Lincoln Parish in 1991; and
WHEREAS, it was comprised of a group of dedicated citizens who volunteered their
time and worked together as a team to assist others in times of trouble; and
WHEREAS, they were described as "neighbors helping neighbors" and it was the
active volunteers who dedicated many hours annually to training and emergency response,
and who are responsible for the successful creation of Lincoln Parish Fire Protection District
No. 1; and
WHEREAS, Tom Thompson was one of those citizens; and
WHEREAS, he lived in Ruston for over twenty-five years and has been married to
his wife, Margaret, for fifty-one years; and
WHEREAS, they have two sons, Douglas and Daniel; and
WHEREAS, as an active member of Temple Baptist Church, Mr. Thompson served
as its deacon and as a Sunday school teacher; and
WHEREAS, under his leadership Lincoln Parish Fire Protection District No. 1 grew
from a volunteer team of firefighters with minimum resources to a full-time department
operating out of a building that is the official emergency operations center for Lincoln
Parish; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson has raised more than eight million dollars for the fire
protection district during his twenty years at its helm; and
WHEREAS, he is one of the finest public servants in the history of Louisiana and a
gentleman whose dedicated and highly productive service has forever changed Ruston and
Lincoln Parish for the better; and SCR NO. 58	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, the strength of Louisiana's communities and the overall vitality of
American society depend in great measure upon the intelligence and talent of people like
Tom Thompson; and
WHEREAS, Tom Thompson will always remain an inspiration to his fellow citizens
for the vital contributions he has made during his twenty years as the chairman of Lincoln
Parish Fire Protection District No. 1, and he merits the highest commendation and most
sincere congratulations for his exemplary term of service and for the tremendous pride,
honor, and joy that he brings to all who know him.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend Tom Thompson upon his retirement as chairman of Lincoln Parish Fire Protection
District No. 1, hereby recognizes and records for posterity the deep and abiding appreciation
of his fellow citizens for his exemplary term of public service and his friendship, and hereby
extends to him best wishes for success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Tom
Thompson.
