SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 66
BY SENATOR ALARIO AND REPRESENTATIVE KLECKLEY 
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend LouisianaChildren.org and its partner programs, Child Advocacy Centers of
Louisiana, the Louisiana Court Appointed Special Advocates Association, and
Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana for their efforts to bring education and awareness to
the issues of child abuse and abandonment through the "GEAUX BLUE FOR
KIDS!" campaign and to recognize Tuesday, April 15, 2014, as "GEAUX BLUE
FOR KIDS!" Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
WHEREAS, the Child Advocacy Centers of Louisiana (CACLA), the Louisiana
Court Appointed Special Advocates Association (LACASA), and Prevent Child Abuse
Louisiana (PCAL) have made valuable contributions to Louisiana and have helped to make
the state a better place for children and families; and
WHEREAS, the member programs of these associations serve over eleven thousand
children and reach over thirty-five thousand families each year in the sixty-four parishes of
Louisiana through advocacy, education, and awareness efforts to support child well being,
and that research has demonstrated these programs improve outcomes for children, reduce
trauma for families, and save taxpayer money; and
WHEREAS, child abuse and abandonment most often occurs in situations where
community resources are not available for victims to cope with stressful situations and
preventing child abuse by strengthening families is better for children and more cost
effective for Louisiana taxpayers; and
WHEREAS, in the past year, forty-three children in Louisiana died as a result of
abuse and neglect, which ranks our state as among the highest in the nation of child death
per capita; and
WHEREAS, the "GEAUX BLUE FOR KIDS!" campaign encourages the people of
Louisiana to promote and advocate for all children based on a belief that all Louisianians
should contribute to the prevention of child abuse in order to ensure that every family has
the community support needed to raise children in a safe and nurturing environment. SCR NO. 66	ENROLLED

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend LouisianaChildren.org, Child Advocacy Centers of Louisiana, the Louisiana Court
Appointed Special Advocates Association, and Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana, and their
member programs throughout the state, for their service and dedication to Louisiana's
children, families, and communities and does hereby recognize Tuesday, April 15, 2014, as
"GEAUX BLUE FOR KIDS!" Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
LouisianaChildren.org on behalf of the partnership.
