Louisiana Legislature.
WHEREAS, Susan G. Komen is the world's largest grassroots network of breast
cancer survivors and advocates fighting together to save lives, empower people, ensure

WHEREAS, except for skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed
cancer among women in the United States; and
WHEREAS, among the fifty states, Louisiana is among the states with the highest
rate of breast cancer mortality, despite the fact that the breast cancer incidence rate in
Louisiana is lower than the national average; and
WHEREAS, in Louisiana this year, an estimated three thousand six hundred thirty
new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed among women, and six hundred fifty Louisiana
women will die of the disease, many of them facing a late-stage diagnosis involving fewer
treatment options and lower chances of survival; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana has the fifth highest uninsured rate in the United States and,
as a consequence, many women often face the decision of whether to delay or completely
forego the breast cancer screenings that are a key to surviving this disease; and
WHEREAS, Susan G. Komen for the Cure and its Louisiana Affiliates honor the
mission to "save lives and end breast cancer forever" by advocating to preserve full state

continue to provide breast cancer early detection services to the aforementioned women; and SCR NO. 80	ENROLLED
