SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 101
BY SENATORS ADLEY, ALARIO, ALLAIN, AMEDEE, APPEL, BROOME, BROWN,
BUFFINGTON, CHABERT, CLAI TOR, CORTEZ, CROWE,
DONAHUE, DORSEY-COLOMB, ERDEY, GALLOT, GUILLORY,

A RESOLUTION
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana to the
family of United States Air Force Technical Sergeant Derek Langford upon his death
while serving in his country's armed forces.
WHEREAS, Derek Langford was a native of Shreveport, Louisiana, and graduated
from Ruston High School where he was a member of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training
Corps program; and
WHEREAS, Derek Langford enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as soon as he completed
high school, traveling to Lackland Air Base for his basic training and technical school before
being stationed at Tyndall Air Base as a telementry apprentice; and
WHEREAS, Technical Sergeant Langford cross trained in 2004, before proceeding
to Creech Air Base in Nevada, where he served as a Communications Maintainer prior to his
first deployment to Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, during his thirteen year career in the U.S. Air Force, Technical Sergeant
Langford would be deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom twice and to Operation Iraqi
Freedom once, bravely serving in the combat theaters and helping his unit accomplish its
mission; and
WHEREAS, Technical Sergeant Langford would also serve a tour of duty in South
Korea at Kunsan Air Base where he specialized as a Cyber Transport Technician; and
WHEREAS, Technical Sergeant Langford eventually returned to Creech Air Base
where he was assigned to the 799
th
 Air Base Group and provided communications support
for an additional eight years of loyal and steadfast service to his country; and SR NO. 101	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, Technical Sergeant Langford would continue his education while
serving in the military, always striving to be the best noncommissioned officer that he could
be; and
WHEREAS, Technical Sergeant Langford's greatest joy in life was his daughter,
Jordan, and she soon became the major focus of his life; and
WHEREAS, on August 16, 2013, thirty-one year old Technical Sergeant Langford
headed into the desert to test-drive his newly purchased 1992 GMC four-wheeler against the
severe Nevada environment; and
WHEREAS, Technical Sergeant Langford, with all of his hopes, dreams and plans
ahead of him, would tragically never return from that trip and his loss would soon be felt by
all who knew and loved him, especially his little girl, Jordan, who would never again see her
father, but will always remember the feel of his loving touch.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby express its deepest and most profound condolences to the family, friends and
loved ones of U.S. Air Force Technical Sergeant Derek Langford for the loss they have
suffered and for the sacrifice and service he gave to his country.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Technical Sergeant Langford's family.
