SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 103

A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Head Coach D-D Breaux of the LSU Women's Gymnastics
team on a school record season and upon receipt of the title of National Coach of the
Year for 2014 awarded by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics
Coaches/Women's Division I.
WHEREAS, D-D Breaux is to be congratulated for her newest national coaching title
and for the impressive assemblage of coaching accomplishments that she has accrued during
her thirty-seven seasons at Louisiana State University that include honors as National
Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Central Region Coach of the Year six times, as
Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year six times, as a finalist for NCAA Coach of the
Year, and with election to the USA Gymnastics Region 8 Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, known as the "Dean of Coaches" at the LSU Athletic Department, she
is one of its longest serving faculty members who has provided extraordinary leadership and
drive to the Lady Tigers since 1978; and
WHEREAS, D-D Breaux maintains a level of consistency that has propelled LSU
into the limelight as a nationally recognized and highly successful program; under her
tutelage, Lady Tigers Gymnastics have enjoyed a top ten ranking for twenty-four seasons;
and
WHEREAS, D-D has been the catalyst behind the sustained success of women's
gymnastics with a regular season record of 433-244-6 and 191-151-2 in post season
performances; and
WHEREAS, D-D Breaux is a champion recruiter of both stellar gymnastic athletes
and extremely qualified coaching staff; and
WHEREAS, whether at daily practice or sizing up the competition at an NCAA
Super Six meet, D-D is a leader of the highest caliber who infuses her team with the mantra,
"stay in the process", to remain focused on the task at hand with no second-guessing and no

WHEREAS, D-D prepares these exceptional young women for "Life in the Real
World" with equal attention paid to athletics, academics, and community service; her
formula has produced a plethora of well rounded student-athletes that hold nine individual
national titles and include two hundred fifty All-Americans and Scholastic All-Americans;
and
WHEREAS, in 2013, the ladies gymnastic team won the meritorious LSU Tiger Cup,
an annual award earned by the athletic program that best represents the university in
accumulation of community service hours, grade point average, and national placement
ranking in post season competition; and
WHEREAS, D-D sets an excellent example in that she donates time and effort to
many worthy community service causes that include the YWCA's Pink Ribbon Campaign
for Breast Cancer, Foundation 56, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, St. Jude's Hospital,
the Alzheimer's Association, and as the LSU chair for the United Way campaign, and in
2009, she was the recipient of the Community Service Award from the McMain's Children's
Development Center; and
WHEREAS, born in Donaldsonville, her natural athleticism was apparent at an early
age and as a teenager she was nationally ranked by both the Amateur Athletic Union and the
United States Gymnastics Federation; D-D competed as a Junior Olympic National
Champion, a participant on the World Games, and, while attending Southeastern Louisiana
University, she competed on the Lady Lions gymnastics team for two seasons celebrating
a second-place finish at the 1972 Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women
Championship, and also served as an assistant coach for the SLU Lady Lions, as a national
level gymnastics judge, and as the first state director for the Louisiana USA gymnastics
program; and
WHEREAS, in 1976, she matriculated to LSU and earned both her bachelor's degree
and master's degree and became head coach in 1978 when LSU finished first in regional
competition and ninth nationally, and the rest is a very colorful and successful history of
extraordinary gymnastic glories capped by a fourth place national finish in the NCAA in
1988 and, in 2014, a school record-setting score of 197.600 and a third place ranking at the
NCAA Super Six Finals; and SR NO. 103	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, D-D Breaux merits the highest commendation for her hard work,
dedication, and record-setting achievements that she brings to the state of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby congratulate D-D Breaux, head coach of the LSU Tiger Women's Gymnastics
team, on a record season and upon receipt of the title, National Coach of the Year for 2014.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does
hereby extend best wishes to Head Coach D-D Breaux and the LSU gymnastics program as
they prepare for continued success in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to LSU
Women's Gymnastics Head Coach D-D Breaux and to LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva.
