Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 105 BY SENATOR THOMPSON A RESOLUTION To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study solutions to the build-up of sediment around Louisiana ports and to consult with the Department of Agriculture and Forestry relative to the issues farmers face to transport agricultural crops to market. WHEREAS, Louisiana has many ports along the Mississippi River; and WHEREAS, as the Mississippi River flows through Louisiana to the Gulf of Mexico, it deposits sediment; and WHEREAS, the deposit of sediment at entrances to Louisiana ports on the Mississippi River hampers access to the ports and impacts farmers who use the ports to transport agricultural crops to market; and WHEREAS, the Department of Agriculture and Forestry has information and knowledge about the issues farmers face to transport agricultural crops to market; and WHEREAS, the Department of Agriculture and Forestry may provide information that is beneficial to finding solutions to the build-up of sediment around Louisiana port entrances. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study solutions to the build-up of sediment around Louisiana ports and to consult with the Department of Agriculture and Forestry relative to the issues farmers face to transport agricultural crops to market and to provide a written report of solutions to the build-up of sediment around Louisiana ports to the Senate Committee on Transportation, Highways and Public Works and the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Aquaculture, and Rural Development not later than April 1, 2015.
