Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 131 BY SENATOR THOMPSON A RESOLUTION To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Reverend Willie Minor Jr. WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the citizens of Louisiana and the members of the Louisiana Senate have learned of the death of Reverend Willie Minor Jr., on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at the age of eighty-seven; and WHEREAS, Reverend Minor was a longtime native of Richland Parish, born on December 29, 1926, and lived in Rayville, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Willie Minor Jr., served his country and his state in the United States Army; and WHEREAS, he received his bachelor's degree from Grambling State University, science and master's degree in education from Murray State University in Kentucky; and WHEREAS, he was a dedicated educator in Louisiana, serving as a teacher, administrator, and assistant principal at Holly Ridge Schools in Richland Parish where he retired after twenty-five years of service; and WHEREAS, he began his ministry in 1975, following his attendance at the United Theological Seminary in Monroe, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Reverend Minor began his ministry at the St. Paul Baptist Church in Rayville where he ministered throughout his career, and he also became the pastor of the New Morning Star Baptist Church in Bastrop where he ministered for twenty-eight years; and WHEREAS, after thirty-seven and a half years of preaching and pastoring, when his health began to fail, Reverend Minor retired from the pulpits and continued his worship as a member of the Pleasant Grove #1 Baptist Church, Rayville, Louisiana; and SR NO. 131 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, he was a loving husband to Orleana Simmons and through their union he became the cherished father of their three daughters; Amanda, Shelia and Wilma and a devoted grandfather; he was also a dedicated relative whose love of family and friends were of the utmost importance in his life; and WHEREAS, because of his numerous accomplishments in public and private life, the death of Reverend Willie Minor Jr. has left a void in his community and in our state and has created a genuine sense of profound sorrow in his friends and family; and WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon people like the Reverend Willie Minor Jr., who dedicate their lives to serving others and making the world a better place for our future generations. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana acknowledges with gratitude the outstanding service and many accomplishments of Reverend Willie Minor Jr., and extends its sincere condolences to his family on the occasion of his death. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the family of Reverend Willie Minor Jr. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
