SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 134
BY SENATOR ERDEY 
A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Clyde and Geneva Cockerham of Walker, Louisiana, upon
the occasion of their seventy-fifth wedding anniversary.
WHEREAS, on Saturday, May 17, 2014, Clyde and Geneva Cockerham will
celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary, a momentous occasion shared with family and
friends and filled with joy and a lifetime of treasured memories; and
WHEREAS, Clyde Carl Cockerham first met Geneva Karma Ouber through mutual
friends; from that moment, he was charmed by her beautiful smile and smitten by her warm
disposition; it was just like a fairy tale with "love at first sight"; and
WHEREAS, he was from the Corbin community and she was from Livingston, and
after a brief courtship, they were joined in holy matrimony in 1939 and settled down to raise
a family and establish a Christian home; and
WHEREAS, not long after they were married, the turmoil of World War II brought
a lengthy separation when Clyde was drafted into the United States Army, served in the
European Theater of War, experienced combat and was wounded, recovered, and returned
home after an honorable discharge from military service; and
WHEREAS, Geneva was always a busy mother and housewife, and Clyde has retired
from Standard Oil's Esso Refinery in Baton Rouge, now known as Exxon-Mobil; and
WHEREAS, they have always felt close to their country roots and have remained
active by tending cattle, keeping a vast vegetable garden, and canning their bountiful
harvest; and
WHEREAS, Clyde and Geneva Cockerham take great pride in their children; two
sons, Clyde Carl Jr. and Raymond, and daughter, Barbara C. McMorris; six grandchildren,
and fourteen great-grandchildren; and  SR NO. 134	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, the family has traveled to Blue Grass music festivals, national parks,
and other scenic destinations throughout the United States; during vacations they enjoyed
rustic camping, fishing, and hiking all through the southern states and the Great Smoky
Mountains; and
WHEREAS, the Cockerhams are faithful members of the Plainview Baptist Church
and reared their children to follow Christ's teachings; and
WHEREAS, the Cockerham's commitment to each other is a wonderous example of
lifelong love and devotion that is an inspiration to their entire community; and
WHEREAS, the diamond anniversary of Clyde and Geneva Cockerham is a joyous
and memorable celebration that merits the most sincere congratulations for they are role
models for living long and aging well.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Clyde and Geneva Cockerham upon the occasion
of their seventy-fifth wedding anniversary and does hereby express enduring appreciation
for the tremendous pride and honor they bring to their family, friends, community, and the
state.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does
hereby extend to this wonderful couple its very best wishes for continued happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Clyde and Geneva Cockerham.
