Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 140 BY SENATORS ALLAIN AND PEACOCK A RESOLUTION To commend the Galvez Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. WHEREAS, the Louisiana State Daughters of the American Revolution was granted a charter in 1893 by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution; and WHEREAS, the Galvez Chapter was organized on February 3, 1925, after months of correspondence to find enough women eligible to form a chapter, in the home of Mrs. Grace Bordelon with twelve members present from Bunkie, Evergreen, Jennings, Lafayette, New Iberia, and Shreveport; and WHEREAS, the Galvez Chapter's 132 current members are descendants of pioneer families who moved westward from New England and the Atlantic Coast; and WHEREAS, the Galvez Chapter co-hosted the 55 th annual George Washington Ball, an event for young people who are descendants of a revolutionary ancestor to inspire patriotism and family pride; and WHEREAS, the Galvez Chapter sponsors several youth causes in the community such as an American History essay competition for grades 5-12, a Good Citizen Award for high school students, and ROTC awards for college students; and WHEREAS, the Galvez Chapter is active at the state and national level and was a host of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution state conference and sent several members to Washington, D.C., to participate in the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Constitutional Congress. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Galvez Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
