Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 141 BY SENATORS ALLAIN AND PEACOCK A RESOLUTION To commend the Attakapas Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. WHEREAS, the Sons of the American Revolution is the leading male lineage society that perpetuates the ideals of the war for independence and seeks to maintain and expand the meaning of patriotism, respect for our national symbols, and the value of American citizenship; and WHEREAS, the idea for establishing a Sons of the American Revolution in the Lafayette area was conceived in 1957; and WHEREAS, after a combined effort of the Galvez Chapter and the chapters of Acadia, Opelousas, and New Iberia of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution to increase membership in the Louisiana Sons of the American Revolution, formal invitations to join the Attakapas Chapter; and WHEREAS, a reception was held on January 11, 1958, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Boudousquie at which thirty-eight men signed a petition for a chapter charter; and WHEREAS, on April 27, 1958, an organizational meeting for the formation of the Sons of the American Revolution chapter was held in the Civic Room of the First National Bank of Lafayette at which officers were elected, dues were established, and it was decided the chapter be called the Attakapas Chapter; and WHEREAS, the name Attakapas derives from the tribe of Indians that inhabited the southwestern area of Louisiana principally along the Vermilion, Mermentau, and Calcasieu Rivers; and WHEREAS, the Attakapas Chapter works closely with the Galvez Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and has co-hosted the annual George Washington Ball in Lafayette with the Galvez Chapter since 1959. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Attakapas Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
