A RESOLUTION
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
passing of former state representative, Joseph "Mickey" Lloyd Frith.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana have learned of the passing of their friend and former
colleague, Joseph "Mickey" Lloyd Frith, on May 20, 2014, at the age of seventy-one; and
WHEREAS, Mickey Frith was a 1960 graduate of E. Broussard High School and
obtained a bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Southwest Louisiana and
a Master of Education degree from McNeese State University; and
WHEREAS, from 1964 to 1988, Mickey was a school teacher and assistant principal
at E. Broussard High School and from 1988 to 1990 he served as principal for Maltrait
Memorial Catholic School; and
WHEREAS, he established Mickey's Sporting Goods, Mickey's Drive Inn,
ElCamino's Mexican Restaurant, and was a co-owner of B's Wild Wings; and
WHEREAS, he proudly served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1996
to 2008 representing District 47 and Vermilion Parish where his main interest was in rural
issues, holding offices in both the Acadiana and Rural caucuses, and serving on the House
Agriculture Committee and the House Natural Resources Committee; and
WHEREAS, Representative Frith was an able and productive legislator who served
his constituency in an honorable and dedicated manner and steadfastly endeavored to
improve the welfare of the citizens of Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, he served on the substance abuse prevention education team and was
a board member and president for Kaplan Memorial Hospital from 1981 to 1983; and SR NO. 155	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, Mickey Frith donated his time as a volunteer coach for the Kaplan
Minor League, Little League, and Kaplan Babe Ruth League, and as a Boy Scout leader,
volunteer coach for basketball, and coach for the Vermilion Parish football league; and 
WHEREAS, he was a 4-H club leader for twenty-five years and was honored as the
outstanding 4-H club leader in the state in 1988; and 
WHEREAS, preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Frith Sr. and the former Gelta
Trahan, Mickey Frith is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Millie Gaspard Frith; three
sons, Brent Frith and Arieal Gaspard, Clint Frith and his wife, Trisha, and Trent Frith and
his wife, Katie; one sister, Diana "Dee" and her husband, Albert Lloyd Duhon Jr.; and eight
grandchidren, Blake, Cory, Scott, Hunter, Averi, Katie, Kelli, and Karli Frith; and 
WHEREAS, the death of Mickey Frith has left a great void and created a genuine
sense of sorrow in all who knew him and will mourn the loss of this wonderful man who
served his state so well; and
WHEREAS, Mickey Frith leaves behind a rich and unique legacy and is greatly
missed by all whose lives he touched through his commitment to public service and his
dedication to his fellow citizens.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of former state
representative Joseph "Mickey" Lloyd Frith, does hereby recognize and record for posterity
his notable accomplishments and singular contributions during his twelve-year tenure as a
distinguished member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, and does hereby extend
enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that he will forever bring to his family, his
community, and his state. 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
family of Mickey Frith.
