Page 1 of 1 Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 169 BY SENATOR MILLS A RESOLUTION To urge and request the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness to study the potential threats and consequences of an electromagnetic pulse. WHEREAS, recent reports issued on behalf of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Department of Energy, and Department of Homeland Security concluded that the nation's power grid is vulnerable to the effects of an electromagnetic pulse (EMP), a sudden burst of electromagnetic radiation resulting from a natural or manmade event; and WHEREAS, an EMP can have catastrophic effects, including causing outages to major portions of the US power grid possibly lasting for months or longer; and WHEREAS, EMP threats have the potential to cause wide-scale, long-term losses with devastating economic impacts. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness to pursue efforts to advance our knowledge and understanding of the potential threats and consequences of an EMP on Louisiana.
