Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 186 BY SENATOR BROOME A RESOLUTION To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the passing of Dr. Karenlyn Raelette Smith "Kay" Dawson, MD. WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the citizens of Louisiana and the members of the Senate have learned of the passing of Dr. Karenlyn Raelette Smith "Kay" Dawson, on May 15, 2014, at age forty-eight; and WHEREAS, she was born on October 25, 1966, to Reverend James Smith and Wray Webb Smith and was a lifelong member of Greater Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Scotlandville, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Dr. Kay Dawson was a Southern University Laboratory Kitten graduating in 1984, earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Southern University Agricultural and Mechanical College in 1988, and received a Master of Science degree from Michigan State University in 1994 in Crop & Soil Sciences/Environmental Toxicology; and WHEREAS, in 1999, she successfully earned her doctorate degree in medicine from Wayne State University School of Medicine; and WHEREAS, Dr. Dawson was an emergency physician at C&M Medical Services and also served as a physician consultant and medical director; and WHEREAS, she pledged Beta Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated; and WHEREAS, Dr. Kay Dawson was preceded in death by her father, Reverend James Smith, and is survived by her husband, Anthony C. Dawson Sr.; one daughter, Anniston G. Dawson; her mother, Wray Webb Smith; and a host of family and friends; and WHEREAS, with the death of Dr. Kay Dawson, Louisiana has lost one of her finest citizens, and although her death has left a tremendous void in her community, her memory shall remain eternal in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved her. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of SR NO. 186 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 Dr. Karenlyn Raelette Smith "Kay" Dawson, does hereby record for posterity her outstanding accomplishments as a doctor and her singular contributions to the field of medicine, does hereby recognize the deep sense of pride and honor that this fine woman will forever bring to her family, friends, and colleagues, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the wonderful way in which she touched the lives of countless people in the state of Louisiana.
