Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2014 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 189 BY SENATORS BUFFINGTON AND PEACOCK A RESOLUTION To commend Holy Angels Residential Facility upon being recognized as a "2014 Frontline Healthcare Worker Champion" by CareerSTAT. WHEREAS, Holy Angels Residential Facility is an independent licensed residential training facility serving approximately one hundred and eighty-four individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Shreveport, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, CareerSTAT is a national collaboration of health care leaders who promote employer investment in the skill and career development of frontline health care workers and is an initiative of the National Fund for Workforce Solutions and Jobs for the Future; and WHEREAS, the Frontline Healthcare Worker Champion recognition pays tribute to national leaders that invest in the skill and career development of their frontline employees, who are those in jobs requiring less than an associate degree, such as patient intake coordinators, medical assistants, certified nursing assistants, and dietary service staff; and WHEREAS, employers that invest in these employees benefit through lower staff turnover and vacancy rates, reduced recruitment costs, and increased quality patient care; and WHEREAS, criteria for being designated as a "2014 Frontline Healthcare Worker Champion" include making skill and career development accessible to workers through methods such as on-site training, providing release time, or employee coaching; having programs of a significant scale; tracking data on program outcomes, impact or return on investment; and demonstrating a commitment to sustaining the investment over time; and WHEREAS, at Holy Angels in 2013, twenty-two of twenty-three frontline workers passed the certified medication administration training course, eighty-one frontline workers opted to participate in foundational and life skills courses, and one frontline worker completed postsecondary education and is now a registered nurse at Holy Angels; and SR NO. 189 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Jan Hunter, director of CareerSTAT, has said "Holy Angels is highly deserving of this recognition," and "Holy Angels has taken broad steps to help its employees through the establishment of Angel University, which provides workers with an array of programs that develop new skills and the ability to move up the career ladder." THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Holy Angels Residential Facility upon being recognized as a "2014 Frontline Healthcare Worker Champion" by CareerSTAT. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Laurie Boswell at Holy Angels Residential Facility. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
